The Electric Scooters rented by shimakaji Ride meet all the latest legal standards. This means you can ride without a license or helmet. (Helmets are available upon request for those who want them.) However, there is an age restriction—riders must be 16 years or older. Please note that riding with passengers, including children, is strictly prohibited.

FAQ

Q. Do I need a driver's license?
No, you don't. Anyone aged 16 and over can use the kickboard.
Q. Do I need to wear a helmet?
Wearing a helmet is encouraged but not mandatory. However, shimakaji Ride offers free helmets for those who request one.
Q. Is insurance included?
Yes, insurance is included in the rental fee, covering personal and property damage. However, if the kickboard is damaged or broken due to your negligence or intentional actions, repair costs up to ¥50,000 may apply. Additionally, any traffic law violations and related fines are the responsibility of the customer, so please drive safely.
Q. Can I store my luggage?
Yes, we offer luggage storage services. Please refer to the luggage storage section above for details on fees and hours.
Q. Is there anything I should be careful about?
If you plan to visit the beach, please avoid riding on sand as it can cause damage to the kickboard. Also, be careful around puddles, especially after rain.
Q. I'm not familiar with the traffic rules.
Please follow all traffic rules, including obeying traffic lights and signs. Our staff will explain everything clearly on the day of your rental, so don't worry! You can also check out our Instagram posts for more information.
Q. Can I ride on the road or sidewalk?
You'll primarily be riding on public roads. However, our kickboards have a sidewalk mode, allowing you to switch modes and ride on sidewalks as well.
Q. What is the maximum speed?
The maximum speed is 20 km/h in road mode and 6 km/h in sidewalk mode. 20 km/h is about the same speed as an electric-assisted bicycle.
Q. How far can I travel on one charge?
You can travel about 60 km on a full charge. If you're planning a longer trip and are concerned, we also offer charger rentals, so please ask us.
Q. Are there charging spots on Ishigaki Island?
Yes, currently there is a charging spot at Kabira Garden. For more information on how to charge, please ask our staff. We are also planning to expand charging spots, so stay tuned for updates on our Instagram.
Q. What payment methods are accepted?
We accept cash, credit cards, electronic money, and WeChat Pay.
Q. Is there a cancellation fee after making a reservation?
We generally do not charge a cancellation fee for cancellations made in advance. As Ishigaki Island can have unpredictable weather, such as typhoons, feel free to contact us. However, please inform us if you wish to cancel. For cancellations made after the reserved time, we will charge 100% of the rental fee.
